Epic Goal

Improve the readability and usability of Adoption Insights by displaying human-readable entity titles (metadata.title) in Top List widgets, instead of raw entity names or IDs. This helps users quickly understand what the data represents while preserving existing navigation and behavior.

Background / Feature Origin

Adoption Insights widgets currently surface raw identifiers (such as metadata.name or plugin_id) in Top Lists. While technically correct, these identifiers are often not user-friendly and can reduce clarity for Engineering Managers, Platform Engineers, and other stakeholders reviewing adoption metrics.{}

User Scenarios

• As a user, when I view Top Lists in Adoption Insights, I expect to see readable entity titles instead of raw IDs.
• As a user, if an entity does not have a title defined, I expect the UI to gracefully fall back to the existing name/ID.
• As a user, I expect hovering over an entity name to show the raw identifier for clarity and debugging.
• As a user, I expect clicking an entity to navigate to the same entity details page as before.
• As a user, I expect long titles to be truncated with ellipses so the layout remains intact and consistent.

Acceptance Criteria

• For all Adoption Insights Top List widgets:
  • Top catalog entities
  • Top templates
  • Top plugins
  • Top TechDocs
• The Name column displays metadata.title when available.
• If metadata.title is missing or empty, the UI falls back to:
  • metadata.name (for entities), or
  • plugin_id (for plugins).
• Hover tooltip displays the raw identifier (metadata.name or plugin_id).
• Link targets remain unchanged and continue to navigate using the entity reference, not the display text.
• Long titles are truncated with ellipses without breaking layout or alignment.
• Existing sorting logic and chart labels remain unchanged.

Note: Currently, analytics/backend is not capturing titles. We can fetch the catalog in FE for the titles
