This epic stands as a placeholder for any MCP registry work that may come up after RHDH 1.8 or any MCP related work that's specifically not in scope for RHDHPLAN-43 and MCP related functions that was not covered as part of 1.8.
Functions that were not covered by 1.8 includes:
- Agentic Template Use:
- Enable AI agents to access and utilize the software templates available in RHDH for project scaffolding.
- Allow agents the ability to register and deregister templates, opening up new possibilities for improved user experiences.
- Notification and Event Handling:
- Implement a notification system to allow AI clients to send and receive events within RHDH.
- Support subscription mechanisms for clients to receive real-time updates on events of interest.
- SCOPE: SPIKE to create a PoC of how we can integrate the MCP system with the Backstage eventing and notification system.
- Logging and Auditing:
- Maintain comprehensive logs of client interactions with the MCP server for auditing and troubleshooting purposes.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies by tracking access and modification events.
- SCOPE: limited to logging what Backstage knows about (we can’t log external systems for them nor the action within the tools action! We can provide enough audit trail on the list of MCP servers and tools involved in the query.)
- Security?
- Move our existing tools and actions to Backstage community
