Overview

This epic outlines the plan to deliver a new RHEL Image Customization Service across hyperscalers. The service will leverage our existing Image Builder (IB) to create certified, customizable RHEL images for customers with specific application, regulatory, or compliance needs. This will address the unsustainability of our current model of creating and maintaining a large number of specialized images and will provide customers with a certified and supported solution for their custom workloads. The goal is to provide a seamless, self-serve experience for customers while also opening new avenues for co-selling with our cloud partners.

Goals

Our main goal is to enable customers to easily create certified, custom RHEL images for their specific needs, such as application dependencies and regulatory requirements. By doing this, we can offer a reliable and supported alternative to third-party vendors for custom image creation. This approach will also reduce the number of specialized images we have to build and maintain, making our image delivery process more sustainable and more scalable across cloud providers. A successful outcome will provide customers with a clear and transparent pathway for selecting and configuring RHEL images, from standard options to highly customized, AI-assisted images. This will also give us an opportunity to explore new verticals by providing a lower barrier to entry for RHEL in government and other regulated sectors.
