Important
The current 1.3 documentation for RHEL AI states that upgrading to the latest z-stream release is possible using "bootc upgrade" but this is not possible for all of the 1.3 installations including the AMD boot ISO on bare metal and the NVIDIA AWS AMI.
The root cause has been found and fixes are in place for future releases but this cannot be fixed in things that have already released and the workaround needs to be documented.
The Workaround
The workaround is pretty simple - use bootc switch instead of bootc upgrade. Once the installation is switch to the floating tag, bootc upgrade will work for future z-stream upgrades for 1.3 but it's probably easier to just say "run this command instead for 1.3 on affected systems"
For AMD Bare Metal:
sudo bootc switch registry.redhat.io/rhelai1/bootc-amd-rhel9:1.3
For NVIDIA AWS:
sudo bootc switch registry.redhat.io/rhelai1/bootc-nvidia-rhel9:1.3
