Systemd introduced support for soft reboots, allowing the system to shut down the userspace without restarting the kernel. This can significantly reduce downtime and improve the efficiency of reboots, especially in environments where full hardware resets are unnecessary.

To enable soft reboot support in image mode, we need tooling that can prepare the new image of the system and mount it in /run/nextroot/ and trigger the soft-reboot.
