In RHEL9 and RHEL10 we have mysql and mariadb databases and perl-DBD-MySQL and perl-DBD-MariaDB. This task is about investigation if there are risks or issues with real work.
There are usages like:
- mysql with perl-DBD-MySQL
- mysql with perl-DBD-MariaDB
- mariadb with perl-DBD-MySQL (to some mariadb version)
- mariadb with perl-DBD-MariaDB
There are some potencial issues on the customer side with upgrade between these use cases.
Concrete problematic things:
- "Unicode Bug" described in https://metacpan.org/pod/DBD::mysql#DATABASE-HANDLES. How could this issue hit the customer?
- An issue like https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2218970 that is not visibly resolved.
- perl-DBD-MySQL is not possible to use with the new versions of mariadb database. Risk in upgrade
Expected results:
- Document which describes the situation in a precise way.
- Part of the investigation will be some testing.
- Describe follow-ups like writing KB article to prevent risk situations
