What were you trying to do that didn't work?
When updating kexec-tools to kexec-tools-2.0.26-8.el9 from RHEL9.0,9.1,9.2 or RHEL8(upgrading), user-specified crashkernel value (i.e. crashkernel=XXXM) will be overwritten in a new default value if the auto_reset_crashkernel is "yes", crashkernel=1G-4G:192M,4G-64G:256M,64G-:512M, without any warning or notice.
What is the impact of this issue to you?
Users epecially who tries to upgrade from RHEL8 to RHEL9 will be confused with this updating without notice.
How reproducible is this bug?:
Steps to reproduce
- set `crashkernel=XXXM` (i.e. crashkernel=128M) and reboot to apply
- set `auto_reset_crashkernel no` in /etc/kdump.conf
- update kexec-tools to 2.0.26-8.el9 or newer version and then reboot
- check crashkernel in /proc/cmdline
Expected results
Show some warning or notice message when updating kexec-tools like:
~~~
auto_reset_crashkernel is yes, set default crashkernel
~~~
Actual results
No warning or notice when updating kexec-tools
