The way the freeipa inventory plugin was designed did not take into account the location of the servers. The “list of verification conditions, successful functional tests, or expected outcomes” below does not include any mention of “location”:
- The plugin is able to create the inventory for all servers given a single server of the domain with admin password and maybe principal
- The plugin is able to create the inventory for all servers matching the given server role(s)
In the ansible-freeipa meeting on Nov 11, we talked about the idea of using the plugin to identify the IdM servers with a specific role that are located in a specific region. IdM has a location feature, so possibly that feature could be used in combination with the inventory plugin so that we can, for example:
A/ identify, say, IdM DNS servers that are part of the [eu] group
B/ identify, say, IdM KRA servers that are part of the [latam] group
C/ identify, say, AD trust agents that are part of the [apac] group
Etc.
