      What were you trying to do that didn't work?

      'dnf update kernel*' on a 9.3 x86_64 system with SAMSUNG MZVL4512HBLU-00BL7 512 GB SSD

      What is the impact of this issue to you?

      system drops into recovery mode after reboot

      Please provide the package NVR for which the bug is seen:

      • lvm2-2.03.21-3.el9.x86_64
      • kernel-5.14.0-362.8.1.el9_3.x86_64 => kernel-5.14.0-427.37.1.el9_4.x86_64

      How reproducible is this bug?:

      • 100% for SAMSUNG MZVL4512HBLU-00BL7 512 GB SSD
      • 0% for SKHynix & Transcend NVMe SSDs for counter-testing
        (there the IDNAME is already "nvme.*"  in 9.3)

      Steps to reproduce

      1. install 9.3 on a x86_64 system with SAMSUNG MZVL4512HBLU-00BL7 512 GB SSD
        system.devices after installation:
        IDTYPE=sys_wwid IDNAME=eui.002538e921b6b619 DEVNAME=/dev/nvme0n1p3 PVID=ZDrLXxmWpspfO8rRh9fddTh5z0WlvzNH PART=3
      2. 'dnf update kernel*' in the 9.3 x86_64 system
        system.devices after workaround:
      IDTYPE=sys_wwid IDNAME=nvme.144d-533637564e463154393535333434-53414d53554e47204d5a564c3435313248424c552d3030424c37-00000001 DEVNAME=/dev/nvme0n1p3 PVID=ZDrLXxmWpspfO8rRh9fddTh5z0WlvzNH PART=3

      Expected results

      system starts normal with after kernel update

      Actual results

      system drops into recovery mode after reboot

      Workaround

      • remove the LVM system devices file: rm /etc/lvm/devices/system.devices
      • recreate LVM device settings: vgimportdevices -a
      • reboot
