OpenJDK 17 becomes default Java in RHEL 9, in place of OpenJDK 11, which ends support in October.
Maven should follow this change and by default maven-openjdk17 should be suggested instead of maven-openjdk11.
More details are at RHELBU-2879.
Documentation:
Appropriate docs like errata text or release notes should recommend users to switch from maven-openjdk11 to maven-openjdk17 or maven-openjdk21.
Acceptance criteria:
- maven RPM Suggests maven-openjdk17 and does not Suggest maven-openjdk11
- dnf install maven installs maven-openjdk17, java-11-openjdk-headless is not installed
This change is intended to be delivered in RHEL 9.6 Y, 9.5 0day and 9.4 Z.
The original Jira issue is for Y-stream RHEL 9.6, please clone it and adjust for Z-stream as appropriate.
