What were you trying to do that didn't work?
Our partner, HPE, and our qual team are trying to test a BFS config with a 2 TB LUN. This is the first time this size LUN has been tested this way. Observations are the Emulex adapter Boot Driver correctly finds the target/lun and the 9.2 ISO install works cleanly and reboots post install completion. On the initial reboot, the Emulex Boot driver loads and executes a lot of Read16's. Once the Reads are finished, the system just drops into grub.
It looks like the Boot Loader isn't finding the root partition in the kernel module to bootstrap GRUB.
This is Grub2/EFI.
Our boot driver team has verified the read cycles command and response from EFI and that all reads completed successfully.
This occurs on an HPE DL380 G11 and a Dell r780.
Please provide the package NVR for which bug is seen:
How reproducible:
100% of the time.
Notes:
If the LUN volume is reduced to 100GB, all is well.
If the LUN volume is 2.1 TB, all is well.
Steps to reproduce
- Create a 2 TB LUN
- Setup the Emulex Boot driver to BFS to that target/lun
- Install the RHEL 9.2 GA bits to that Fabric attached storage.
- Reboot
- Note that the system stops at the grub> prompt on reboot. A boot menu is not provided.
Expected results
It shouldn't matter what the LUN volume size is. The system should boot cleanly. We tested two other, nonLinux, OSes in the same config and everything worked as expected.
