      User Stories:

      As a system administrator, I want NetworkManager to support DNS over TLS so that my system's DNS queries are processed securely. 
      —

      As a developer, I want to implement the support for DNS over TLS in NetworkManager so that future encrypted DNS protocols are easy to add without breaking the current functionality.

      Acceptance Criteria:

      Given a network is configured to use DNS over TLS, 

      When DNS queries are made, 

      Then, NetworkManager must process DNS queries securely using DNS over TLS.

      Definition of Done:

      • The implementation meets the acceptance criteria
      • Integration tests are written and pass
      • The code is part of a downstream build attached to an errata

      This task will add support for DNS over TLS (RFC 7858) as the mandatory protocol for encrypted DNS and ensure that the support is extensible for future encrypted DNS protocols like DNS over HTTPS (DoH) or DNS over QUIC.
