What were you trying to do that didn't work?
gdm dies when a user that already has a VNC session running attempts to login on the system console.
Please provide the package NVR for which bug is seen:
- RHEL 9.4
- gdm-40.1-23.el9
- tigervnc-server-1.13.1-8.el9_4.3
How reproducible:
Always
Steps to reproduce
- Install RHEL 9.4, with “Server with GUI” profile
- Configure and start a VNC service, as described in the Getting started with the GNOME desktop environment guide
- Try to log in to the system console as the same user that owns the VNC session
Expected results
The login operation should fail and gdm should go back to the greeter screen, as documented in Solution 6220331.
Actual results
gdm dies and the system console shows a black screen with the customer blinking at the top left corner.
Additional information
- gdm “resurrects“ if the user presses Ctr-Alt-F2, Ctr-Alt-F1
