Description of Problem:
Confusing registration instructions displayed on the terminal on a system not registered to Insights.
How reproducible
100%
Steps to Reproduce
Option 1 - New RHEL system (user scenario)
- Deploy a new RHEL system from scratch
- Before registering the system to insights, log in to the terminal (ssh or console)
- You should be able to see the insights motd
Option 2 - Force the display on an existing system
- # rm -f /var/lib/insights/newest.egg*
- # rm -f /etc/motd.d/insights-client
- # yum -y reinstall insights-client
Option 3 - See the content source of the insights motd
- # cat /etc/insights-client/insights-client.motd
Actual Behavior
A user logging in to a newly deployed RHEL system will see the following output:
—
Register this system with Red Hat Insights: insights-client --register
Create an account or view all your systems at https://red.ht/insights-dashboard
—
Running the command as-is will not work if the system is not already registered via subscription-manager
Expected Behavior
The instructions should provide the users with complete instructions on how to register their system using rhc, what is rhc and what is Red Hat Insights.
The complete proposal can be found here:
Additional info
The goal is to drive adoption of Insights and provide a good user experience with useful and accurate instructions
