      1. Proposed title of this feature request
Move GDM login banner text to separate text file

      3. What is the nature and description of the request? Move the text for the login banner showed at the GDM login page to a text file.

      4. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here)
Customer's site has a required site banner that must be shown in all login locations. Keeping it in sync across everything that takes user logins is an error prone process. Currently, /etc/motd.d and /etc/issue.d help with this greatly. But GDM requires the message text to be embedded within the configuration.

      5. How would the customer like to achieve this? (List the functional requirements here)

      • Add dconf key to permit targeting a specific file for the login message rather than embedding the message within the config.
      • Set an inotify so that GDM will update the display if the file changes content.

      6. For each functional requirement listed, specify how Red Hat and the customer can test to confirm the requirement is successfully implemented.

      • Write a login text file.
      • Set a GDM dconf key to point to that text file.
      • Restart GDM and check the login screen to see if the proper login banner text appears.
      • Change the text in the login banner text file and see if the GDM login banner text gets updated accordingly.

      7. Is there already an existing RFE upstream or in Red Hat Bugzilla?
No RFE currently exists for this feature.

      8. Does the customer have any specific timeline dependencies and which release would they like to target (i.e. RHEL5, RHEL6)?
      RHEL 9.0, if possible.

      9. Is the sales team involved in this request and do they have any additional input?
      Sales is not involved.

      10. List any affected packages or components.
      gdm

      11. Would the customer be able to assist in testing this functionality if implemented?
      Yes.
