What were you trying to do that didn't work?

Testing RHEL 10 Workstation, there are two places where "report an issue" links are shown in the UI:

      1. The details pages in the Software app
      2. The about dialogs found within each app

These links are currently set to point to upstream issue trackers. For example, the links for the Files app point to https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues .

For RHEL these links are inappropriate - upstream projects will often not support the software versions that are in RHEL. Customers are better served by interfacing with Red Hat support for their support needs.

Please provide the package NVR for which bug is seen: appstream-data-40-5.el10.src.rpm

[RHEL-40389] Report an issue links point to upstream issue trackers

What did we decide here? I thought the decision was to patch both libadwaita and gtk3 to just not show the links - i.e. no appstream-data changes needed – which would be worthless, as the app is either bundling the data or loading the metainfo.xml source file.

For that, I proposed we port the apps we can to AdwAboutDialog, which can load those from the appdata file.

I wish it's a file, but it is from the resource, something bundled in the executable. It's too late for the appstream-data package changes (the direction is opposite, app provides appstream data, appstream-data package gets it from the build package and gathers it together).

            See https://gnome.pages.gitlab.gnome.org/libadwaita/doc/1.6/ctor.AboutDialog.new_from_appdata.html

I already ported Nautilus and Settings to this, and I see that a couple of other core apps alreadty do that. If this is desired, we could try porting more apps.

A bit more discussion can be found at https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-22271 , even that one is for RHEL 9, not 10.

The idea is that the appstream-data should either change the bug tracker link to the RHEL bugzilla or remove them completely. That way any app consuming the appstream-data data will not provide upstream bugzilla links for apps provided by Red Hat.

The Help->About link it not possible to change without code changes in the respective apps.
