What were you trying to do that didn't work?

Hello. I want to create a template for RHEL 9.3 and latter on restored template to rename VG for a new name.

Please provide the package NVR for which bug is seen:

      LVM2, device-mapper, and/or grub2-tools

      How reproducible:

In our environment, we need to create template of RHEL 9 but for some reason, it is not working. Last ok version is RHEL 9.1. Install server is simple task, setup host name like lnx-hl-dpm01, setup network, create some disk partitions, setup user, time zone. When use RHEL 9.1, after install done, and when try to rename VG from (for example) lnx-hl-dpm01 to lnx-ss-dpm01 (doesn't matter), vgrename did job quite ok. We can move with our work. But on RHEL 9.2 and 9.3, situation is very different. On 9.2 and 9.3 installation, we use same pattern of setup but, after booting (like on 9.1), if we try to use vgrename, something crashes. SSH disconnected and on VMWare console there isn't GUI and only prompting. After some 20 seconds, GUI showed but it is impossible to login. If we try to reboot, booting is impossible because OS cant find mapped drives from fstab, I didn't even had chance to replace in fstab. I tried and to downgrade LVM2, grub2-tools and device-mapper packages with version from RHEL 9.1, but problem still exist. To summarize, after setup RHEL 9.1, we have some commands to prepare template to new server, rename VG and LVs, replace new mapped device to fstab, rename hostname, recreate SSH host keys and some others. On RHEL 9.1 there isn't any crashing, and vgrename, rename VGs in second, but on RHEL 9.2 and 9.3, OS crashed. Please, do installation yourself and try vgrename in RHEL 9.3.

      Steps to reproduce

      1. Install RHEL 9.3 with standard options, setup hostname and network config, create disk configuration with /var, /var/log and /tmp mounts, setup time zone, chose install options (Debugging Tools, Guest Agents, Network File System Client, Performance Tools, Remote Desktop Clients, Remote Management for Linux, Console Internet Tools, Graphical Administration Tolls, Headless Management, Security Tools and System Tools), setup user (doesn't matter if root is disabled or not).
      2. when boots, sudo su to enter to root login
      3. if hostname in template is lnx-rhel9-template, for restored template for new server we need to rename VG with 'vgrename lnx-rhel9-template lnx-hl-dpm01'
      4. SSH connection disconnected, VMWare console showed blank screen with prompting cursor. After some 20 seconds, GUI showed but it is impossible to login in GUI.
      5. tried to reboot but boot process crashed that he cant find (probably old mapped devices, from fstab).

      Expected results

To create template to restore for new servers.
