What were you trying to do that didn't work?
Login to GNOME desktop from gdm, while external screen (LG 22" via HDMI) is the only configured display (built-in screen is off).
What is the impact of this issue to you?
I cannot work with the desktop while the external screen is off. It takes a long time (cca 5 to 20 minutes) before the screen turns on. Workaround: close and open the laptop lid, then picture on external screen appears immediately.
Please provide the package NVR for which the bug is seen:
mutter-49.4-1.el10.x86_64
gnome-shell-49.1-9.el10.x86_64
How reproducible is this bug?:
Always.
Steps to reproduce
- Open the laptop lid and connect an external screen (via HDMI)
- In Settings -> Displays, configure the external screen (via HDMI) as the primary display and turn the built-in display off.
- Log out from GNOME.
- Log-in to GNOME again.
Expected results
GNOME session should start for the logged-in user, using the external screen as the only display.
Actual results
GNOME session starts, but the external screen stays black
for takes cca 5 - 15 minutes.
Notes:
- My laptop is Lenovo ThinkPad P16v, CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 7840HS, GPU: AMD Radeon 780M Graphics
- When I try to log in with laptop lid closed, system susspends (goes to sleep) instead of showing desktop.
- If built-in screen is configured to be used (turned on) together with external screen, both displays are available immediately after login.
