What were you trying to do that didn't work?
Currently Mutter only supports snapping windows to the sides (50%/50%) so users are regularly manually resizing windows in order to see their work on the one screen. Using multiple workspaces doesn't resolve the problem of being able to see multiple apps at once or deal with browser pages which won't display properly unless they are almost the full width of a screen.
Please provide the package NVR for which bug is seen:
N/A
How reproducible:
1. The ability to drag windows to a corner and have them snap to 1/4 of the screen
2. The ability to use the Super key with two arrows to snap to the appropriate quarter of the screen. For example, SUPER + UP + LEFT would snap a window to the top left quarter.
3. Allow for windows to be snapped to the top half or bottom half of the screen. Most of us regularly work with at least one browser window and sadly many things (including some Red Hat applications) do not display well on a browser reduced to 50% width even on a 1440p 27" monitor. Or sometimes you want a terminal which is full width to reduce word wrap, but need to see other things at the same time, so do not want that terminal maximised.
Steps to reproduce
Currently gnome desktop only allows for window snapping 50/50% of the screen.
Trying to snap windows to the corners of the display in a split window fashion.(4 window tiles per display - similar to Microsoft Windows)
Tried certain gnome extensions. They did not resolve the issue and they also can add security vulnerabilities to the system.
Expected results
Snap application window tiles to the corners of the screen without manually resizing them. 4 application windows on one screen using shortcuts like Superkey + Left arrow + Up arrow.
Actual results
Application Windows can only be docked to either left or right side of the desktop screen using Superkey + right arrow (or) left arrow. in a 50/50% fashion.
