Previously, we were shipping the HPC system role as part of the rhel-system-roles RPM.
This was a workaround because adding new packages to RHEL 9.6.z was not possible.
Now, for RHEL 9.8 release and going forward, we should have a separate RPM containing the HPC Ansible role. Several reasons to it:
- Make it easier and faster to test a single role RPM. It will save us time because we won't need to run the whole test infra each time we are adding a new functionality to the role. And we do expect doing multiple z-stream releases.
- rhel-system-roles RPM contains roles that are directly related to common linux management. Special workloads go to separate RPMs - like SAP, MSSQL, leapp.
- Supplementary channel because we want to have more flexibility.
The new package name is ansible-collection-redhat-hpc to be compatible with other Ansible Collection RPM names.
