What were you trying to do that didn't work?

Upgrade a physical workstation from RHEL 9 to RHEL 10

What is the impact of this issue to you?

After the upgrade, the machine goes to sleep mode fter 15 minutes of inactivity.

Please provide the package NVR for which the bug is seen:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux release 9.7 (Plow)

      leapp-upgrade-el9toel10-0.23.0-1.el9.noarch

      How reproducible is this bug?:

      Always

      Steps to reproduce

      1. Install RHEL 9.7 on a physical machine (Server with GUI)
      2. Perform an IPU to RHEL 9
      3. Reboot the machine
      4. Wait for 15 minutes

      Expected results

      The machine should stay active.

      Actual results

The machine suspends after 15 minutes

      Root cause

It happens because on RHEL 9 there is an override to disable sleep-inactive-ac-timeout., provided by gnome-settings-daemon:

      # cat /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power.gschema.override
      [org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power]
      sleep-inactive-ac-timeout=0

      # rpm -qf /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power.gschema.override
      gnome-settings-daemon-40.0.1-22.el9.x86_64

On RHEL 10, the file is provided by gnome-settings-daemon-server-defaults:

      # cat /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power.gschema.override
      [org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power]
      sleep-inactive-ac-timeout=0

      [org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power]
      power-button-action=nothing

      # rpm -qf /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power.gschema.override
      gnome-settings-daemon-server-defaults-47.2-5.el10.x86_64

But gnome-settings-daemon-server-defaults is not installed during the IPU, just gnome-settings-daemon is upgraded.

      Workaround

After upgrading to RHEL 10, install the missing package and reboot the system.

      # dnf install gnome-settings-daemon-server-defaults
      # systemctl reboot
