What were you trying to do that didn't work?
Log out of a GNOME Wayland session normally using the GNOME Shell system menu.
What is the impact of this issue to you?
Every logout is delayed by repeated timeout cycles and shows a misleading dialog claiming that "some applications are busy or have unsaved work", with GNOME Shell itself listed as the blocking application. This degrades the desktop user experience, causes unnecessary waiting on each logout, and undermines trust in session management feedback.
Please provide the package NVR for which the bug is seen:
gnome-shell-49.1-3.el10.x86_64
How reproducible is this bug?:
Always (100%).
The issue occurs on every logout and is reproducible across reboots. It persists with all GNOME Shell extensions disabled.
Steps to reproduce
- Boot CentOS Stream
- Log in to a GNOME Wayland session
- Ensure all GNOME Shell extensions are disabled
- From the GNOME Shell system menu, select Log Out
- Observe logout behaviour
Expected results
- GNOME Shell responds promptly to the end-session request
- Logout completes immediately
- No "some applications are busy or have unsaved work" dialog is shown
Actual results
- Logout is delayed while GNOME Session Manager waits for GNOME Shell to respond
- GNOME Shell is reported as a non-responsive client
- "Some applications are busy or have unsaved work" dialog is shown
- Session only terminates after timeout expiration
