      Background

When installing RHEL with bootc and registration to Insights (rhsm --connect-to-insights), the registration to Insights fails during the installation process. However, manual registration after installation works fine.

Note: This issue only affects bootc and ostree installation modes. Package mode installations work correctly.

      Proposed Solution

Martin Kolman suggested that insights-client tools should write and maintain a one-shot systemd unit for insights-client registration. Anaconda could then invoke that unit, similar to how anaconda already invokes other one-shot systemd units.

      This approach would:

      • Provide a consistent interface for anaconda to trigger insights registration
      • Allow insights-client to maintain control over its own registration process
      • Work reliably in bootc and ostree installation environments
