Goal
- As a RHEL 10 administrator, in order to control who can run software delivered via RPMs, I need RPM support for NSS which enables lookup of users and groups in my centralised Identity Management provider.
- Previously, RPM supported NSS for lookup of centrally managed users or groups.
- RPM >= 4.19 in RHEL 10 only supports local system lookups in /etc/passwd and /etc/group.
- This change in RHEL 10 is a blocker for organisations which rely on centralised management of users and groups to control who can run certain software.
- This RFE is a request to reintroduce NSS-based user/group lookups for RPM.
- An RFE is open upstream - RFE: support NSS for user/group info again #3994
