What were you trying to do that didn't work?
When an OS image that includes system.devices is cloned and used by a new system, lvm detects that system.devices may need to be updated with new device IDs. In this case, devices are located using the PVID rather than the device ID, and if they are found system.devices is updated with the new device ID. The PRODUCT_UUID included in system.devices is also updated to match the new system, so the new-system detection (based on a new product_uuid) won't be triggered again. I believe a shortcoming in this design is if the refresh is triggered before all devices are attached to the system, then the device IDs of those detached devices won't be udpated. It would be nice to find a way of handling that case.
