- SysV shutdown has supported scheduled shutdowns "forever". RHEL10 system includes the feature:
* systemctl gained a new --when= switch which is honoured by the various
forms of shutdown (i.e. reboot, kexec, poweroff, halt) and allows
scheduling these operations by time, similar in fashion to how this
has been supported by SysV shutdown.
- Bringing these into parity would simplify systemd scheduled shutdowns across the platform.
- This feature is available in RHEL 10 but absent in RHEL 9.
Expectations:
- Backport --when= to systemctl in RHEL 9.7 to enable scheduled shutdowns, as supported in RHEL 10. (Customer would like this feature backported to RHEL 9.7)
