This ticket came out of the devprod Q4 retro.
Everyone on the team wants to collaborate in real time more. We all want to be less siloed, and to do more things like pair programming, real time discussions for PR reviews, etc. This is of course challenging because we are a global team. And there's the psychology of a remote team where even when everyone wants to collaborate more it can be hard to flip the mental switch and do something real time when you are balancing a bunch of different things async.
We should discuss systemic things we can put in place to facilitate better real time collaboration, so that the onus isn't solely on individual collaborators in the moment to make these arrangements in the face of competing time pressures.
Example ideas:
- Set up open office hours multiple days a week where team lead joins a bridge that's open and anyone can join if they want and people can work together like we're in the same room
- Make sure people feel empowered to ask for real time collab while also feeling empowered to drop when they need to
- Daily "need collab" reminder thread like our PR thread. If anyone wants to pair or work on something drop it in the reminder thread
- Create a ticket workflow for people to "get credit" if they are spending time as a co-programmer
