Narrative

EnterpriseDB (EDB), a privately held company that provides software and services based on the open-source database PostgreSQL, and is one of the largest vendor contributing to Postgres since its early days. They are actually part of the main Core Team people on the PostgreSQL Contributor Profiles, and so some of the fine people who contribute to the PostgreSQL development to make it what it is today.

RH-SSO Customers have been using Enterprise DB Postgres Plus Advanced Server as a fully supported database in all RH-SSO 7.x releases, as per Red Hat Single Sign-On Supported Configurations page.
While migrating from RH-SSO to RHBK, these customers need to keep running with EDB as their Keycloak database for commercial support on the database side. Running with a PostgreSQL community, or switching to another supported database is out scope and not an option for them.

We need to re-introduce EDB PostgreSQL as a fully supported database for RHBK.

Value Proposition

• Enable customers to use Red Hat build of Keycloak with confidence and for the enterprise commercial support they would expect from Red Hat as a software provider.
• Commercial support is available from many different companies providing professional services to the PostgreSQL community. At least one of the available options should be considered for support in RHBK. As EDB PostgreSQL is already and still supported in RH-SSO as of today, we should continue supporting the same in RHBK.

Goals

• Support for EDB Postgres Advanced Server 17.x
• Older versions may be considered based on demand
• Update Supported databases in documentation

Non-Goals

• Support of any older releases versions of EDB Postgres 13 or older.
