1. Proposed title of this feature request
Support Single-Stack IPv6 for Assisted Installer (AI)
2. What is the nature and description of the request?
Assisted Installer (AI) currently assume IPv4 or dual-stack networking during cluster installation.
There is no supported or validated workflow for deploying OpenShift clusters in single-stack IPv6-only environments using these installers.
This limitation blocks adoption in environments where IPv4 is:
- Unavailable
- Intentionally disabled
- Disallowed by policy (e.g., government, telecom, regulated sectors)
Proposed Enhancement
Provide end-to-end supported single-stack IPv6 installation for AI, including:
- IPv6-only agent discovery and registration
- IPv6-only ignition, image, and API delivery
- Support for DHCPv6 and/or static IPv6 addressing
- IPv6-only API, ingress, and bootstrap endpoints
- Explicit validation and meaningful error messages
- CI and QE coverage for IPv6-only install paths
- Official documentation and support statement
Use Cases / Customer Impact
- Bare-metal and edge deployments in IPv6-only networks
- Government and defense customers mandating IPv6-only
- Enterprises with IPv4 exhaustion
- Telco and ISP environments with IPv6-first architectures
3. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here)
Organisation policy forces customer to go with ipv6 only for BM servers.
4. List any affected packages or components.
