Description:
Customer would like to request support for the Google Cloud C4D machine series in the openshift-installer so that OpenShift clusters can be deployed using these new compute-optimized instance types.
The C4D series provides improved performance characteristics and cost efficiency for compute-heavy workloads, making them desirable for customers running OpenShift on GCP. Currently, the installer does not recognize or validate these instance types, preventing their use for cluster creation.
Problem :
- Customers using compute-intensive workloads on GCP require access to the latest machine types (including C4D) for performance and cost optimization.
- The current openshift-installer validation rejects or does not permit these machine types, blocking installation.
- Lack of support limits the ability to deploy worker nodes or full clusters on hardware aligned with customer workload patterns.
Business Justification:
- Customers benefit from improved compute performance on modern GCP hardware.
- Openshift on GCP becomes aligned with current cloud instance families.
