What is the nature and description of the request?
- The customer is requesting a reversible method to disable cgroupsv2 enabled using the TechPreviewNoUpgrade feature set. Currently, this procedure is irreversible, and no warning is provided in the documentation about the non-reversibility of the change.
- Documentation: https://docs.redhat.com/en/documentation/openshift_container_platform/4.12/html/installation_configuration/enabling-cgroup-v2#enabling-cgroup-v2
Why Does the Customer Need This?
- To allow disabling the TechPreviewNoUpgrade feature and bypass the validating webhook without requiring a full cluster reinstallation.
- Rebuilding the cluster would lead to significant downtime, loss of data, and extensive manual effort to recreate configurations, secrets, and persistent volume claims (PVCs).
- This issue is critical for upgrading their production environment and managing feature gates in a flexible manner, especially in cases where enabling the feature by mistake could cause disruption.
Affected Packages or Components:
- Cgroupsv2
- TechPreviewNoUpgrade feature set
