      CUSTOMER PROBLEM

rhn-support-dkaylor brought up a issue in #support-triage on the StackRox Slack about supporting a customer with migrating his non-Helm-based setup to a Helm-based setup.

When we rolled out our new Helm charts a while back we wrote a shell script ("prepare-resource-metadata-for-helm-migration.sh") for assisting our users in this migration procedure. Since then this script has, as far as I can tell, not been tested anymore and has been considered as unmaintained.

      USERS

All current customers who wish to migrate from a non-Helm-based setup to a Helm-based setup.

As described in the Slack thread referenced above customers might currently have an extra incentive for migrating to Helm until the end of the current month (June).

      ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA

In order to be able to support our customers the migration procedure to Helm needs to be reviewed and tested again.

      • Migration procedure has been tested with multiple StackRox versions.
      • Migration documentation is written/updated.

      CONSIDERATIONS

In particular it should be checked if migrating from very old StackRox installations requires special care. It is a good starting point testing the script mentioned above. If direct migration turns out to be difficult in a reliable manner, it might be worth investigating if a reinstallation would be easier to conduct.

      DELIVERY PRIORITY

I have put due date as June 17 for this ticket, but this is just a guess, as I don't have enough information at this point to provide a well-founded assessment of urgency and criticality.
