The supported database backend for Quay if Quay runs on OCP / k8s is Postgres only with the latest version. Running databases on k8s has a couple of caveats and our overall messaging is that it requires a database operator. In the default shipment we exclude HA capabilities at all. That means there is no RH offering which allows:

      • to run both Quay and the DB backend on k8s / OCP
      • in an HA fashion
      • tested and supported by RH

The only possible option at the moment that we test is to use the Crunchy operator which pretty much limits what a customer can run in an enterprise environment.

The request from the customer is to either

      • have a HA solution fully supported by Red Hat without the need to involve another vendor or
      • support other HA databases i.e. MySQL so that they can offload the database management to a different team in their org which already exists
