1. Proposed title of this feature request
Enable debug mode container in PTP operator for DPLL in WPC and LB devices.
2. What is the nature and description of the request?
Currently when using Logan Beach (LB) and WestPort Channel (WPC) there is not a standard procedure to debug the Time Synchronization component referred to as DPLL. A user space tool for debugging the DPLL in WPC and LB Time Synchronization cards is needed.
- After installing the PTP operator, the user shall be able to have the option of including a DPLL debug container via the configuration of the PTP operator (debug mode).
- The debug capability will be opt-in only, and disabled by default (so as to not compromise performance KPIS).
- The OpenShift Data Foundation Operator is a good reference for this request, which allows the user to start the rook-ceph-toolbox (https://access.redhat.com/articles/4628891) on an as-needed basis for debug collection and analysis.
3. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here)
The primary use case for this will be when the customer wants to debug the DPLL configuration and DPLL statistics in T-GM GNSS and T-BC nodes without having to install custom containers or binaries on the host. This will also help our support and engineering staff collect information that we have seen as problematic in internal testing. This capability will allow watching and monitoring the status of the phase and frequency DPLLs parameters of interest, such as the DPLL phase offset, and the state of the DPLL for debugging purposes.
4. List any affected packages or components.
Openshift PTP-operator https://github.com/openshift/ptp-operator
This only affects NIC cards with DPLL interface.
