      1. Proposed title of this feature request

Lightweight federated registry at the edge

      2. What is the nature and description of the request?

As a customer I need a way to serve a lightweight registry at the edge where I may not have the capacity to run a full blown Quay environment either in OpenShift or on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux server.    What I really envision is something similar to docker.io/library/registry which could then be run as a small container from podman.

      3. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here)

Customer has a remote location that has minimal bandwidth that needs to fulfill all IT functions and any other business operations functions for that site like VOIP.  Pulling down containers directly from internet all the time is not necessarily the best option.  Further there might be multiple edge devices pulling identical containers so rather then downloading them multiple times download them once and have them served to all edge devices.  This will reduce the bandwidth usage and allow them to bring on devices faster when adding in new devices (think point of sales for example).

      4. List any affected packages or components.

      Quay product
