1. Proposed title of this feature request
UI Support for preparing an OCP mirror
2. What is the nature and description of the request?
Customers running OCP in internet-disconnected environments all have the same pre-requisite steps to fulfil:
- determine what's available
- select desired content
- mirror desired content into an offline environment
- configure cluster / installer to use the offline mirror
oc mirror has been created to centralize and simplify steps 1-3. With those initial asks addressed, users are seeking further simplification via a UI driven process.
Specifically a web UI should exist in the context of OpenShift cluster management at console.redhat.com to allow to accomplish the following tasks:
- discover and select from a list of existing OCP releases and channels versions that are desired in a disconnected environment
- discover and select from a list of catalogs, channels and releases of OpenShift optional (OLM-managed) operators desired to be available in a disconnected environment
- create a valid oc mirror image set configuration file that reflects the selection made above
- upload an existing image set configuration file for the purpose of further modification / updates through the uI
3. Why does the customer need this?
People prefer browsing lots of content and granularly selecting subsets of content via a browser-based user interface rather than through a CLI client. CLI-focussed experiences for day0/day1 tasks are perceived as an adoption hurdle and may prolong timelines for pilots and inhibit experimental use of the product.
4. List any affected packages or components.
