Enable clustered session replication on the IDP by adding the <distributable/> tag to the web.xml file. Create a servlet, jsp or login module that creates a session attribute. Trigger a fail over (kill the original node the idp was running on), hit the idp on another node in the cluster. The session attribute should be available on that node.

The isCommitted check that is used to determine when to invoke the next valve in the pipeline breaks session replication (the ClusteredSessionValve is not invoked) but only when going from the SP to the IDP. If you go directly to the IDP, then session replication works (the ClusteredSessionValve is invoked).
