      Starting with 4.16 hosted clusters and FIXME MCE/HyperShift operator releases, HostedCluster {{spec}} has an {{updateService}} property that can be used to customize the update service used to retrieve update recommendations and declared update-risks for the hosted cluster.

      I'm not clear on how MCE/HyperShift releases are handled, but you'll need one of those to get the new HostedCluster CustomResourceDefinition and controller logic that propagates the new {{updateService}} property through to the HostedControlPlane {{spec.updateService}}.

      Definition of done:

      Management cluster admins can set spec.updateService on HostedCluster and have their status.version.availableUpdates and similar populated based on advice from that upstream. At no point in the implementation is the update service data pulled from anywhere accessible from the hosted cluster.
