Perses could be included in Istio Upstream as an addon (See https://issues.redhat.com/browse/OSSM-9860)

Upstream Contribution Strategy:

• Research the Istio upstream contribution process and requirements for new feature inclusion.
• Propose an action plan to present this integration to the Istio community for approval.

Can the maturity level of the project be a problem? Grafana is currently the de facto standard for observability dashboards in the cloud-native ecosystem. Its widespread adoption, broad support across CNCF projects, and extensive plugin ecosystem have made it the default choice in many environments.

Perses, as a CNCF incubating project, presents a promising alternative—offering modern provisioning, native JSON support, and a more streamlined configuration model. Including it as an optional addon in Istio would provide users with more flexibility while exploring new dashboarding solutions, without disrupting existing Grafana-based workflows.
