Going forward in Service Mesh 3, we want to send a clear message that Istio is our community and upstream... and that we are not putting effort into a mid/downstream project. The Maistra brand is tightly coupled with being different from Istio, and we want to end that messaging. Continuing with the Maistra branding would be confusing, so we should look to eliminate it where reasonable when going forward in Service Mesh 3. Eventually, this could mean renaming or moving Maistra repo content to a Red Hat repo, but that is not a current priority.

What is a priority is having a name/logo for the community operator that is tied to Istio. The ideal name would simply be "Istio Operator" with the Istio logo, which would be consistent with other projects community operators. Until we have the community approval for that, we can use "Red Hat Operator for Istio" and a Red Hat logo. 

Other uses of the "maistra" name should also be phased out over time, but the operator name/logo is most pressing.
