If the patch fails with StatusReasonInvalid, the operator deletes and recreates the resource. This is problematic, because if the creation fails, the resource is effectively deleted. Furthermore, deleting and recreating the object has completely different semantics than updating an existing object. With some resources, this may cause data loss (e.g. cluster and loadbalancer IPs on services).
