Product Management has agreed that LVMS should be our default storage class for PVs needed by RHOSO
This jira tracks ensuring it is documented, tested and functional with RHOSO18.
Some podified control plane services require performant PVs; notable examples:
- Galera database
- OVN database
- RabbitMQ database
- Glance metadata
We're not sure Ceph ODF will be performant enough so we should recommend customers not use it until after we've investigated it. E.g. can we test Galera similarly to how MySQL on Ceph was tested
E.g. consider what happened with Bosch
running etcd on Ceph and how Ceph had to be tuned.
Proposal:
- For 18 GA: Document that customers should "use PVs backed by local SSDs for Galera and Etcd (and not Ceph ODF)" via LVMS.
- Future: Attempt future Ref Arch where ODF/Ceph provides PVs for these services after scale lab testing.
This Epic should identify which other services might need a performant PV and get input from their respective DFGs. Work to document today and tomorrow's recommendation could also be done in this Epic as well as any research.
