2024Q3
As an NFV integration team publishing realistic performance benchmarks, simulating customer use cases for scale, recommending best practices for power/resource utilization it is important to onboard a real Network function
Our present set of tools like TestPMD are more suitable for unit testing of DPDK performance abstractions. NFV DFG in collaboration with FDP and DPDK community have identified a path to build a sample virtual Router on Graph Lib DPDK abstractions that could serve this purpose.
Business Justification and Priority
Customers have asked for this specific requirement.
With many scale related projects coming up, having a vRouter (a real VNF) will help us evaluate perf/scale with a greater sense of determinism.
Presently this task is left to pre-prod trails with workloads from customers.
