After the stable-compute-uuid feature there was a set of follow ups to add more checks guarding nova-compute starting up with a wrong config. https://review.opendev.org/q/topic:%22extra-rename-check%22

While the base feature was backported to 18.0 and 17.1 we missed the follow ups. We suspect that a recent customer escalation could have been prevented if these checks were backported to 17.1. So this ticket tracks that work.
