CloudKitty currently supports three v2 storage backends: opensearch, elasticsearch and influxdb. We cannot distribute the two latter due to their license preventing free redistribution. Opensearch has an good sane opensource license, but the maintainability and support of it would put a great strain on the CloudOps team which would be the only supporter of Opensearch on Red Hat.

However, OpenShift is using Loki to store the logs, and provides a Red Hat supported Loki version with an operator ready to deploy instances of it, like Cluster Observability Operator does with Prometheus.

That gives us the capacity of using an already supported technology suitable to store CloudKitty dataframes. However, CK does not provide a storage driver for Loki, so we have to write it.
