The prometheus client automatically appends "_total" to counter metric names. This means, that all our current counter metrics were renamed. This is apparently "more OTEL compatible", but I'm unsure if we want to rename metrics now. We actually can't do this without further efforts on documentation, dashboards, autoscaling, ...
