Feature Overview
This feature request addresses the documentation gap in OpenStack's Bare Metal service, specifically regarding the configuration of IP addressing for non-provisioning NIC interfaces of provisioned nodes. While the functionality to use dedicated tenant networks alongside flat networks already exists, current documentation lacks detailed guidance on how to configure IP addresses for these non-provisioning NICs. By improving documentation, this feature will better support operators in setting up advanced network configurations for provisioned nodes, working in conjunction with OpenStack's Networking service.
Goals
- Clarify and simplify the process of configuring non-provisioning NIC interfaces' IP addressing, which is currently lacking in documentation.
- Users (operators, network administrators) will be able to better manage IP addresses across non-provisioning interfaces during deployments.
Requirements
Requirements | Notes | isMvp? |
---|---|---|
Document configuration for IP addressing | Add clear documentation on configuring IP addresses for non-provisioning NIC interfaces. | MVP |
Integration with Networking service | Must work in conjunction with existing OpenStack Networking service. | MVP |
Assumptions
- OpenStack Networking service (Neutron) is already deployed and integrated.
- Provisioned nodes will use supported NIC configurations.
Customer Considerations
- Customers with existing flat networks will need guidance on how to integrate on the provisioned nodes.
Documentation Considerations
- Doc Impact: Updates to existing content, release note, and potential new documentation to address the configuration of IPs on non-provisioning NIC interfaces.
- Clear guides for operators on how to configure networks for provisioned nodes.
