      Goal

Many OpenStack services provide support for Availability Zones, however, how these work and are implemented varies significantly. While we have a good understanding of AZ functionality in the Cinder CSI driver, for example, we do not have this understanding for the Manila CSI driver. We would like to determine which components are able to take advantage of AZ functionality in OSP services and ensure this functionality is fully documented.

      Why is this important?

Larger customers frequently use AZs as a mechanism to logically divide their OpenStack deployments by region, rack etc. Accurate, up-to-date information is important to ensure customers can take advantage of these OpenStack features in their OpenShift deployments.

      Scenarios

      • As a customer, I would like to take advantage of AZ functionality provided by OpenStack services in all OpenShift services.

      Acceptance Criteria

      • A full list of components able to take advantage of AZs is available
      • Full documentation is published for all the above.

      Dependencies (internal and external)

      None.
