Outcome Overview
Model Context Protocol (MCP) Gateway targets creation of an application gateway to handle connectivity and management of MCP servers both on and off cluster for MCP clients that are both on and off cluster.
Success Criteria
By introducing a consistent interface and standardized communication layer for request handling, authentication, and traffic management, the gateway will enhance performance, observability, and developer efficiency while enforcing uniform governance and security policies across the platform.
Expected Results (what, how, when)
- What
- Fully operational gateway managing all API traffic for selected services
- Centralized control for access management, request throttling, and monitoring
- Simplified integration framework
- How
- Apply policy enforcement (authentication, quotas, caching) via configuration templates
- When
- Conduct roll-out in 3 phases:
- Developer Preview for internal testing
- Technical Preview
- GA
- Conduct roll-out in 3 phases:
Post Completion Review – Actual Results
The MCP Gateway will:
- Provide a unified entry point for all service-to-service and external API calls.
- Simplify integration across distributed systems with standard authentication, routing, and throttling mechanisms.
- Improve maintainability through centralized observability, configuration-driven management, and CI/CD automation.
- Enable faster onboarding of new services and reduce operational overhead.
