Feature Overview (aka. Goal Summary)
Some external loadbalancers provide more advanced DNS behavior than our internal DNS is set up to handle. Notably, some systems use DNS-based loadbalancing to distribute traffic across multiple backends. While we could implement DNS loadbalancing in the internal loadbalancer, it would be better to just allow such systems to manage DNS themselves. Not only does this simplify the internal LB implementation, it also ensures that we don't have mismatches in behavior between internal and external traffic.
Goals (aka. expected user outcomes)
